Tiananmen Square protest of 1989 or also know as Tiananmen Square massacre and the June fourth incident. the protest were caused by the death of former CPC General Secretary Hu Yaobang. 100000 people gathered at the square for his funeral. Beijing students began the demonstrations to encourage continued economic reform. it evolved into a mass movement of politics. The movement lasted for seven weeks after Hu Yaobang's death .military action was put into play on June 4th.
